Explore the science behind our ingredients. A pharmacist’s guide to the Mediterranean botanicals and clinical actives used in our Bologna-made skincare.
1. Polyphenols (from Emilian Grapes)
• The Science: These are micronutrients packed with antioxidants.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: We harvest these from the vineyards surrounding Bologna. They are 20\times more powerful than Vitamin E at neutralizing free radicals caused by urban pollution and UV exposure.
2. Squalane (Olive-Derived)
• The Science: A saturated oil that mimics the skin’s natural sebum.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: Unlike heavy mineral oils, our olive-derived squalane is non-comedogenic. It "tricks" the skin into thinking it has enough oil, which actually helps balance oily skin types while deeply hydrating dry ones.
3. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
• The Science: A water-soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: I include this in our formulas to visibly improve enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, and dullness. It’s the "multivitamin" of skincare that every routine needs.
4. Thermal Water (Appennine Source)
• The Science: Mineral-rich water sourced from the Italian Appennine mountains near Bologna.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: This water contains a specific ratio of Calcium and Magnesium that helps soothe skin irritation and rebalance the skin's pH after cleansing.
5. Carrot Root Oil (Daucus Carota Sativa)
• The Science: A cold-pressed lipid rich in essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: In our Bologna lab, we value Carrot Oil for its regenerative properties. It is a "biomimetic" oil, meaning it mimics the skin's natural sebum to repair a damaged barrier without clogging pores. It’s particularly effective for skin that has been over-exposed to the elements—whether it's the Appennine wind or the California sun.
6. Beta-Carotene (Pro-Vitamin A)
• The Science: A powerful carotenoid and antioxidant that the body converts into Vitamin A (Retinol) as needed.
• The Pharmacist’s Note: Think of Beta-Carotene as the "Gentle Retinol." While pure Retinol can often cause peeling or irritation (especially for those with sensitive skin), Beta-Carotene provides the brightening and smoothing benefits of Vitamin A with a much lower risk of "Retinoid Dermatitis." It gives our formulas their natural golden hue and provides a "photo-protective" shield against blue light and UV-induced oxidative stress.
